About Kimberly Heismann – Cultural Provocateur, Pop Sustainability
With the self-proclaimed title of Cultural Provocateur, Kim has been working from within popular culture to inspire people towards more sustainable lifestyles for the past 9 years since founding Pop Sustainability.
Pop Sustainability has evolved into a social enterprise that consults to businesses, NGO’s and governments who wish to communicate to and actively engage their stakeholders.
Originally founded in 1998 as a non-profit organisation, Pop Sustainability became one of the leading international organizations for successfully introducing more sustainable lifestyle choices to young adults. Kim was awarded the Woman of the Year award in 2003 by New York CitiWorks as an acknowledgement of her efforts.
Before Pop Sustainability, Kim worked for the United Nations Development Programme where she developed one of the first internet conferences, which facilitated information sharing between thought leaders and developed best practices in the field of Public-Private Partnerships for the Urban Environment.
Early in her career Kim worked for Colorado State Governor Roy Romer assisting his environmental advisor in advocating policies for the state and championed the first recycling initiative for the State Capitol Building. Her first job was as a park ranger and tour guide for the National Park Service at Currecanti National Recreation Area in western Colorado.
Kim earned her master’s degree from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), specializing in non-profit management, sustainability and Latin American environmental policies.
