Riding out the storm

The storm that's hit the world economy in recent months has already sunk some big companies and is creating turbulance for us all. What strategy should we should adopt to stay afloat - and to emerge stronger at the other side?

Colin Douglas, a management consultant and writer, has advised leaders of major corporations such as Anglo American, BP and Woolworths on how to adapt to major change - and thrive in it. He is also a keen sea kayaker, and has learnt that paddling on a stormy ocean offers lessons for managers and entrepreneurs navigating uncertain times, including:
- Panicking will just make you more likely to capsize - staying calm under pressure is the way to find safe passage
- Fixed ideas are more hindrance than help - be flexible enough to roll with the waves
- Don't expend all your energy on fighting the immediate crisis - conserve your resources for the long haul

Colin will share his experiences from both the business world and the ocean to identify practical ways in which PR practitioners can ride out the economic storm and emerge from it stronger, wiser and well prepared for sunnier times.

Our venue is Signal, the fabulous new restaurant at The Cape Grace Hotel, Waterfront.
