Surviving the Media - Marion Scher

After spending many years not only being on the receiving end of public relations, but also training PR professionals in writing skills and dealing with the media, Marion decided the time had come to collate the research and information she had gathered.
Surviving the SA Media though isn’t just another ‘how to’ book. What makes this book stand apart is the invaluable input Marion received from her colleagues in both the electronic and print media. Each chapter has comments from journalists, editors, producers and talk show hosts on the right and wrong ways of communicating – information literally from the horse’s mouth.

Marion Scher is an award winning freelance journalist, writing for many of South Africa's major consumer publications, the custom publishing field as well as public relations companies and the corporate world. Through her company Media Mentors she consults and trains in the corporate world as well as media, parastatal and NGO organisations - her speciality being training people on all aspects of media.

For 14 years she was head of journalism at Damelin College, Bramley (until 2008) with her pupils now working in every major field of journalism both here and overseas. Marion regularly gives courses both within the industry through the Magazine Publishers Association of South Africa and the Print Media Association of South Africa as their official editorial trainer, as well as designing specific media and writing courses for companies.

She is the holder of a Rosalynn Carter Fellowship for Mental Health Journalism and is currently on the Board of this Fellowship in South Africa.
